Eating Healthy when you are Crazy Busy

Eating Healthy when you are Crazy Busy

With the holidays approaching, our schedules tend to get filled to the max. The last thing we want is Santa bringing us extra holiday pounds for Christmas, plus we know we always feel GREAT when we are eating healthy.

And we aren’t going to let “being busy” stop us from feeling great, right?!

Well, I have some tips for you on what you can eat to stay healthy when you are busy!

5 Tips on Eating Healthy for Busy Holistic Hotties

Smoothies

So fast, just pour some coconut water, almond milk, or filtered water into the blender, then throw in your fruits AND some veggies (spinach, cucumber, romaine lettuce, just to name a few).

Add some protein if you like (hemp seed or chia seed, or maybe a scoop of protein powder) and some healthy fats (avocado, coconut milk).

For extra flavor, add some vanilla extract or dash of cinnamon.

Salad Tip - Healthy Sexy LifeSalads

Chop up a bunch of lettuce – romaine or red leaf – and add some spinach. Pile on some other veggies – tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, red cabbage, sliced beets, bell peppers, onions…whatever you like.

Add some protein. Choose pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, cooked organic chicken breast, kidney beans, sprouts, a hard-boiled egg, salmon or tuna.

Make a quick dressing or just add some balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Toss it all together and eat.

If you chop the veggies in bulk you can make a couple salads at a time, don’t add the dressing to them yet, and they usually last a couple days. Check out this recipe if you need some inspiration for a quick salad: Deliciously Simple Fall Salad with Lemon Basil Vinaigrette.

Soups - www.julianicholson.comSoups

Soups can be super easy to make and are comforting during the cold winter months. One of the best parts about making soup is that it usually makes way more than what you need for one meal, which is perfect for busy weeks. Store the rest in to-go containers or even freeze the leftovers in quart size bags so you have dinner ready for those nights you come home with little energy and no time to cook.

Crockpot wonders

The crockpot can be your best friend on days when there is no time for cooking. Literally, put everything in my crockpot the night before, place the crockpot insert in the refrigerator and the next morning set it up. When you get home it will smell like someone has been slaving over the stove and supper will be ready to eat.

Know where you can get healthy take-out

This could be from a nearby restaurant or you can find a place like Fit Food Revolution here in Nashville, TN. They prepare healthy food to go.

Another great spot is to check out your local grocery stores. A local natural food store here, called the Turnip Truck, has a fantastic buffet. You can get a healthy meal fast. Even Whole Foods offers larger meals packages that are reasonable (I can get an entree that serves four, with a huge salad for $15.99). It’s my go-to meal when I deliver food to friends that just had a new baby (you know I always pick up one for my family when I’m there).

No, it’s not quite as cheap as buying and preparing it yourself, but if you are a busy person (OR you just don’t enjoy cooking) and would just spend the money on junky fast food or pizza delivery, then it’s a much better value.

It’s always the small habits that add up. Don’t let yourself fall back into old habits that cause you to not feel so great! I’d love to hear from you, too: what do you like to eat when you are really busy?
