4 Ways to Boost your New Year Health Resolutions

4 Ways to Boost your New Year Health Resolutions

It’s the mid-month check in on those 2015 resolutions! Doesn’t it seem like we move straight from party season and festive events to the dreary cold of January with dreaded detoxes, and over-ambitious lists of resolutions and promises? Then, we get super pumped for our resolutions and outlooks for 2015 and decide this year is going to be different.

After two weeks we start seeing some resistance from some of the things we’ve been working on. Maybe your snooze button is looking a little more appealing, or you gave in to some of your favorite dessert a few days ago and without realizing it that slippery slop starts forming.

Well lace up those boots, sister, because we are going to get back on track!! Today, we are covering 4 ways to boost those health and wellness resolutions into overdrive.

4 Ways to Boost your New Year Health Resolutions

Think of that one big health and wellness goal that you really want to accomplish. Is it eating more greens, drinking more water, or exercising more?

1) MTA

Break the goal down and set a minimum, target, and audacious (MTA) goal. For example, if you want to workout 4 times a week, your minimum would be 3, your target would be 4 and your audacious would be 5. That way if something major comes up or you get sick, you don’t feel guilty with only 3 workouts, and if you’ve conquered 4 then you know you get extra sparkles for doing 5!

2) See beyond your goal

Ask yourself, “What will having that accomplishment do for me?” Think aboutwhat life would look like if you achieved this goal?

Would you have more energy? Would your jeans fit better? Would your skin finally clear up? Would your bloating go away?

Visualizing what you will have once you achieve your goals and daydreaming in that mindset for a little bit will lessen those temptations, because you will want the desired outcome that much more. Realizing your goal of losing those last 5 pounds means not only being able to comfortably utilize the “skinny” section of your closet, but it also means getting to run around with your kids or not being exhausted when you finally head home after a long day of work.

Changing your mindset is a key to changing anything else in your life , see beyond your goal!!

If your goal is eating more healthily, clean out your refrigerator so you can not only see what’s in it, but you can also know everything you have on hand. When that is done, you can lay out your food for the next day. Make snacks and lunch the night before so time isn’t an excuse, and you can grab and go.

If your goal is working out more, clean out your gym bag and your schedule. Lay out your clothes the night before, because getting dressed and out the door is the hard part. Also, layout your schedule each week. Putting an appointment in your calendar and honoring your workout just as if it were a hair appointment will get you on the way to your goal!

4) You aren’t chasing the goal, you are chasing the feeling

You aren't chasing the goal - you're chasing the feelingLast year I read the book The Desire Map by Danielle Laporte (amazing!!). The entire book is about mapping out, what she calls your “core desired feelings.”

It’s coming to the understanding that you aren’t chasing the goal, you are chasing the feeling you hope reaching the goal will give you.

As a society we go after the things we want to have and accomplish, and we expect that to fill us up (physically, mentally, and spiritually). Her message is to become clear on how you want to feel in life and set your intentions, so you can begin to feel the way you want to in every part of your life.

I love what she says here: “What if first, we got clear on how we actually wanted to feel in our life, and then we set our intentions? What if your core desired feelings consciously informed how you plan your day, your year, – your life? … You know what will happen with that kind of inner clarity and outer action? …You will do much less proving and way more living.”

Take some time to look back at some of your goals from last year, and make sure they align with what you really want to accomplish this year. Hold tight to your goals, and you can make it through January!!
